Petrogal SA
Petrogal is a company integrated in Galp Energia, SGPS, SA group (Galp Energia), which was founded on 22 April 1999 as a result of the restructuring of the energy sector in Portugal. Two pre-existing Portuguese government-owned companies were placed under our control at the time (Petróleos de Portugal-Petrogal, SA - “Petrogal”), the only refiner and the leading distributor of oil products in Portugal, and GDP- Gás de Portugal, SGPS, SA (“GDP SGPS”), the company responsible for the import, transportation and distribution of natural gas in Portugal.
At the present moment, Galp Energia is a vertically integrated multi-energy operator. Besides operating in the oil and natural gas business, Galp Energia also operates as a producer and seller of electricity for industrial and home consumption. Renewables market is another energy segment were Galp Energia develops activity, mainly regarding biofuels, wind and solar.
Concerning Petrogal, its main activity is the refining and distribution of oil products. Petrogal is still the only refiner in Portugal and it is the leader in the distribution of oil products. The Refining business segment processes raw materials in two refineries, at Porto and Sines, distributes refined products predominantly in the Iberian Peninsula but also in Africa and markets to third parties and exports to several European and North American countries what it does not distribute directly.
